How to Keep Fruit and Vegetables Fresh for Longer
0

Buying fresh produce is only half the job. Storing it correctly makes the difference between crisp vegetables on Friday and a soggy bag in the bottom drawer.

Keep ethylene producers apart

Bananas, apples, avocados and tomatoes release ethylene gas, which speeds up ripening. Store them away from leafy greens, cucumbers and broccoli.

Use the crisper drawer wisely

Set one drawer to high humidity for leafy greens, carrots and peppers, and the other to low humidity for fruit such as apples and kiwis.

Wash just before eating

Moisture encourages mould. Rinse berries and mushrooms right before you use them, not when you unpack your FreshCart delivery.

Follow these simple rules and you will waste less food and enjoy better flavour all week.
